Abstract

Professor Smith, of the Department of Russian Language and Literature in the University of Birmingham, is writing a historical survey of food in Russia. This article contains material from his study of how tea came to Russia and leads on to a discussion of the origin of the samovar. (See page 68 for a definition of a samovar.)
