Abstract

Written by Bartolomeo Sacchi, also known as Platina, De Voluptate et Valetudine  was published in Venice in 1475.  Divided into 10 chapters or books, the recipes appearing in the last five books have been extensively studied but the more than 160 that are spread among the the commentary on agriculture, medical and general food information in the first half of the work have received far less attention. This paper catalogues and describes these overlooked recipes and discusses some of the challenges to interpreting Renaissance recipe writing in general.
