Abstract

Rupert Croft-Cooke, prolific author of detective novels, serious fiction, criticism, travelogue, memoirs and cookbooks enlisted in the British army in 1940 and spent several years in Africa and India. This article traces his embrace of Indian cuisine and culture which is reflected in his memoirs and cookery writing.
