• Skyscape Archaeology Research Grants

  The Sophia Centre/JSA Skyscape Archaeology Research Grants are meant to support, promote and nurture future research projects by students and early career researchers in the field of skyscape archaeology. Each grant will consist of a maximum of £500 to be used towards the execution of a research project. Projects may be part of their studies (if this is allowed by their programme or unit), completely independent pieces of research or pilot projects for further studies. Applications are received on a rolling basis - you can apply at any time. Grants will be awarded while funds are available.

• Skyscape Archaeology and Anthropology Keynote Lecture Series 2023

  The Journal of Skyscape Archaeology, the Sophia Centre at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, the Sophia Centre Press and the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology of Bournemouth University are teaming up for the third series of monthly online Skyscape Archaeology Keynote Lectures.

  Continuing from the successes of the last couple of years, this third series focuses on diverse case studies from the field of ethnoastronomy that, not only display the range of human connection to the skyscape, but also will help inform future trajectories, research questions and methods for skyscape archaeology and anthropology. We aim for these keynotes to generate constructive dialogue around these topics, therefore each Zoom session will consist of a single 45 minute lecture followed by discussion.

• Winners of the Skyscape Archaeology Student Research Awards

  The Journal of Skyscape Archaeology and the Sophia Centre (University of Wales Trinity Saint David) are proud to announce the winners of the Skyscape Archaeology Student Research Awards. The two winners, their affiliations and project titles are:
  
      *  Yuqing Chen (University of Durham) with project titled ‘How did astronomical phenomena and associated prehistoric cosmology differ between China and Europe?’;
  
      *  Hilda Natalia Sánchez (University of Wales Trinity Saint David) with project titled ‘Do heavenly bodies have a role in the Muisca myth of Bachué, as seen from the Villa de Leiva archaeological site and the Iguaque sacred lagoon?’.
  
  We wish them good luck with their projects and look forward to seeing the results of their research published in JSA in due course.
