Equinox Publishing is a leading publisher specialising in books and journals in the humanities, social sciences and performing arts. We recognise and believe in the integrity of good ethical practice in publishing in order to promote and maintain the quality our contributors produce. As a publisher, we uphold the standards set forth in the COPE code of practice (www.publicationethics.org), specifically for all contributing parties: author, editor, reviewer and as publisher.

We have communicated these standards to our journal editors who share in our aims for ethical publishing practice and agree to work towards these standards throughout the editorial process. Together, we ensure the ongoing excellence and quality for which Equinox is recognised.

All articles submitted to this journal are subject to peer review (double-blind) and in doing so we (the publisher and editors) commit to taking all reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred. Thus, in the event that we are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct, we shall deal with allegations appropriately, including taking steps to retract or correct articles when necessary or to publish clarification and or apologies.

Equinox journal editors have access to (and are encouraged to use) CrossCheck, a plagarism-detection software system which identifies professional plagiarism and other forms of scholarly misconduct.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Where available, URLs and DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The submission does not contain copyrighted material. It has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The paper conforms to our statement of ethics regarding archaeological excavations conducted in areas of conflict.
  • The submission should be under 20 MB. If not, the paper will be returned to the author for changes. Usually, the trouble is in the figure files. It's important that both reviewers and editors can easily download the submission without clogging up their bandwidth.
