Call for Co-editors

The journal Gender and Language is inviting applications for Co-editors of the journal.

Gender and Language, the journal of the International Gender and Language Association (IGALA), is published by Equinox and has been running since 2007. Gender and Language offers an international forum for language-based research on gender and sexuality from feminist, queer, trans and nonbinary perspectives. The journal showcases research on the social analytics of gender and sexuality in discourse domains that include institutions, media, politics, everyday interaction, among others.

The journal encourages research on the implications of different definitions of gender and sexuality as well as different approaches to analyzing the production and interpretation of texts and speech, and aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue. Gender and Language is the leading journal for research on language, gender, and sexuality, with a current Journal Impact Factor of 1.3 (Clarivate Analytics 2022 data). The journal ranks as #115 out of 1001 journals in Language and Linguistics and #43 out of 190 journals in Gender Studies. For further information on the journal, please see https://journal.equinoxpub.com/GL/about.

The Co-editor positions are a three-year term (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028), which starts at the end
of the current editors' term. Gender and Language’s current editors, Rodrigo Borba, Kira Hall, and Mie Hiramoto, will work with the new editors for a 6-month transition period beginning January 2025.

IGALA particularly encourages scholars from a diversity of perspectives and geographical locations to apply. Scholars may apply individually or as a team.

The Journal Co-editor posts are elected by IGALA members. The posts run for a period of 3 years and are renewable for another 3 years. The last 6 months of the term are spent working with the newly elected Editors.
