Abstract

This article looks at the use of domesticated animals as a source of food in Cameroon. The ethnic groups in this study include Bakweri, Mbo, Bamun, Wawa, Doowaayo, Guidar and Kotoko.

  • Forka Leypey Mathew Fomine, Independent Scholar

    Forka Leypey Mathew Fomine is a Ph.D. candidate at the History Department, University of Yaounde 1, Cameroon. In 2002, he was awarded first prize in an anthropological essay competition launched by the Melford Charitable Trust London in collaboration with the History Department, University of Yaounde 1. His thesis is titled ‘Patterns of Food Consumption in Cameroon: Contrasting Oral History and Genetic Evidence from very early to Recent Times’, and involves the study of traditional food preparation and consumption in multiple ethnic groups in Cameroon. He has just completed a manuscript on food as a linking device among the Guidar.
