This piece has its origins in a paper delivered to the Second International Conference of the Adelaide University Research Centre for the History of Food & Drink in July 2001. In this article the author reviews the history of German migration to South Australia many of whom went into wheat farming and describes the conditions under which they adapted their traditional ways of breadmaking.
