Abstract

The author is a highway engineer (possibly the only person in this profession who subscribes to PPC), whose hobby for some years has been collecting information about the local foodstuffs and their names in whatever place he finds himself. In Iraq he filled a small notebook; in Turkey a much bigger one; and now, in Thailand, he has constructed a list of almost 5600 Thai foodstuffs and food-related items (not in a notebook this time, but on a computer). He has kindly shown us all the material, which we have found of great interest; all the more so since it was put together with no exterior audience or special end in view but just as a reflection of a wide-ranging curiosity. We are glad to print here a small selection from the A-Z notes made in Turkey.
