Abstract

The paper details the inventory of Walter Stanhope’s house, taken after his death at the beginning of 1759. It is enhanced by an annotated copy made when his widow Ann sold the house to John Wormald in 1765, which indicates what she took with her, what the purchaser bought along with the house, and what was sold off. Another list of fixtures, also made in 1765, adds further information on the ranges, set-pot, shelves and water-supply fixtures not always included in lists of moveable goods. Includes a glossary. Walter Stanhope’s inventory is part of a large collection of family and related material in the Bradford Archives, the Spencer Stanhope papers.
