Abstract

An essay on the practice whereby British sovereigns bestow royal warrants on members of various trades who are permitted to make reference to this distinction in advertising. The history of one such recipient, William Whitely, and his creation of a model farm outside of London to supply processed foodstuffs for sale in his West End department store.
