Author Guidelines

Prospective authors should register with the site as authors. Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

First,  click below to download the guidelines which you will find in PDF format.  Note: You will be asked to upload your reference list separately with URLs (where available) as well as including this as part of the mss. All articles are peer-reviewed. Please be sure to anonymize the text of your submission.

Please contact the Book Review editor before submitting a book review to ensure that the book you wish to review has not already been assigned.

We will acknowledge your submission upon receipt and let you know the anticipated timeframe for a decision. If your article is accepted, we will send you further instructions for submitting the final manuscript of your article.

The editors will not consider manuscripts which are under consideration by other publishers. It is assumed that once you have submitted an article to this journal, it will not be sent to other publishers until a decision about inclusion has been made. Only by special arrangement will the editors consider previously published material.

As a condition of publication, please click here to download, sign (electronic signature is acceptable) and return a copy of the contributor agreement by email or regular mail, once your manuscript is accepted. For multi-authored submissions, it is acceptable for one author to sign on behalf of all authors.

If your paper has been accepted for Open Access publication after peer review and the fee paid, we will send you a different contributor agreement. 

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Where available, URLs and DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • This journal follows the transliteration standards of the International Journal of Middle East Studies (IJMES) which may be found here: https://ijmes.chass.ncsu.edu/IJMES_Translation_and_Transliteration_Guide.htm Correct transliterations are the responsibility of the author. Please note that all final submissions must comply with these standards and will not be accepted or scheduled for publication until the standards are met.
  • You, the contributor, have read and agree to our conditions for publication especially regarding our statement of ethical practice, the originality of your contribution (i.e. has not been previously published and does not include copyrighted material) and is not libellous or containing any potentially libellous content.
