As we carry our work in the midst of the pivotal geo-political moment that is the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the Bulletin, thought it pertinent to consider the reflections of scholars during another, albeit different, crisis moment—that of the terrorist attack in the United States that took place on September 11, 2001. Below we include the editorial note (with minimal alteration for clarity) that introduced some reflections published at the time.
