Abstract

This is a response by the author Arvind-Pal S. Mandair to the contributors of the Review Forum discussing his work Religion and the Specter of the West: Sikhism, India, Postcoloniality, and the Politics of Translation (hereafter RSW), published in 2009 by Columbia University Press.

  • Arvind-Pal S. Mandair, The University of Michigan

    Arvind Mandair is SBSCAssociate Professor of Sikh Studies at the University of Michigan. His recent publications include: Secularism and Religion-Making (Oxford University Press, 2011—with Markus Dressler); Religion and the Specter of the West: Sikhism, India, Postcoloniality and the Politics of Translation (Columbia University Press, 2009); Teachings of the Sikh Gurus (Routledge, 2005—co-authored/translated with Christopher Shackle). He is a founding editor of the journal Sikh Formations: Religion, Culture and Theory and is Assistant Editor of the journal Culture and Religion, both published by Routledge.
