This review discusses Arvind-Pal S. Mandair’s Religion and the Specter of the West: Sikhism, India, Postcoloniality, and the Politics of Translation (hereafter RSW), published in 2009 by Columbia University Press.

  • Jakob De Roover, Ghent University

    Jakob De Roover is a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Centre Vergelijkende Cultuurwetenschap, Ghent University, Belgium. His research concerns the interplay of religion and political theory in Europe and India, and more specifically, the emergence of the liberal model of secularism in modern Europe and its implementation in colonial and postcolonial India. He has published a series of book chapters and articles in journals such as Political Theory, History of Political Thought and the Journal of the American Academy of Religion.
