Abstract

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the work currently being carried out by forensic phoneticians, particularly in relation to speaker identification. Given the essentially catholic readership of Forensic Linguistics - general linguists, phoneticians and lawyers - it is intended to provide a basic introduction to the development of the field and to some of the working methods and principles that forensic phoneticians currently employ.
