The remarks below were compiled from speakers who attended the June 21, 2017 celebration at Steckle Heritage Farm on the occasion of Michel Desjardins' retirement.

Author Biographies

Joanne Benham Rennick, Wilfrid Laurier University

Joanne Benham Rennick is the Director of the Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation at Laurier. Prior to that role, she served as instructor and coordinator of the Social Entrepreneurship Option, a program initiated and developed by Michel - and shepherded by Michel through all the approval stages at the university. Joanne and Michel also co-edited a book on student global experiential learning, called: The World is My Classroom.

Bob Sharpe, Wilfrid Laurier University

Bob Sharpe is Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies at Laurier - and also the Coordinator of the Community Engagement Option, a joint program between Laurier and The Working Centre in Kitchener, which is another innovative program initiated and developed by Michel. Bob succeeded Michel as coordinator of the Community Engagement Option and was part of the original Community Engagement Teaching team with Michel and with me - and with the placement coordinators, Heather Montgomery and Isaiah Ritzmann, from The Working Centre. Morgan Holmes has also joined the team since Michel stepped back a year ago.

Meena Sharify-Funk, Wilfrid Laurier University

Meena Sharify-Funk is our beloved current Chair of the Religion and Culture Department. Her research is focused on Contemporary Muslim thought and identity. She is the recipient of many awards for both teaching and her writings. Since 2014, she has been the editor for the Theology and Philosophy Series at Pickering & Chatto Publishers.

Patrice Brodeur, Université de Montréal

Patrice Brodeur is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Theology and the Sciences of Religions at the Université de Montréal, as well as senior adviser at the International Dialogue Centre in Vienna, Austria, specialist in interreligious and intercultural dialogue. Brodeur previously held the Canada Research Chair on Islam, Pluralism, and Globalization at the Université de Montréal, where he led an interdisciplinary research team in studying Muslim involvement in intra- and inter-religious, as well as inter-civilizational and inter-worldview, forms of dialogue.
