Author Biography

Shelley Brunt, University of Otago

Shelley Brunt is a lecturer in music at the University of Otago, New Zealand, and Chair of the Australia/New Zealand branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM-ANZ). Her research interests and publications concern ethnomusicological approaches to the popular musics of Asia, particularly expressions of identity, culture and gender in contemporary Japan. Shelley is also an active performer of Japanese taiko and Central Javanese gamelan.
